Exfoliating your face 2 to 3 times per week is essential to remove dead skin cells and to reveal softer, smoother, more radiant skin. Here are the ingredients I find to be the most effective at gently revealing a brighter complexion.
Oatmeal: Oatmeal is a very gentle exfoliant, which is perfect for even the most sensitive skin. As a bonus, it is also naturally anti-inflammatory and calming to prevent any redness or irritation.
Natural Abrasives: I tell my patients to stay away from facial scrubs that contain sharp edged ingredients such as peach or apricot seeds and nut shells such as walnut shells. It is not the ingredient itself that is bad for the skin it is the way it is prepared - crushed stone-fruits or shells often have sharp edges that can cause micro tears in your skin, leaving the skin more prone to blemishes, breakouts or uneven skin tone. Instead, choose a scrub with gentle, natural abrasives such as Jojoba Esters and crushed Date Seeds.Pineapple and Papaya Enzymes: Pineapple and papaya both contain powerful enzymes that naturally dissolve and remove dead or damaged skin cells without any abrasives. These ingredients are also the most effective on very delicate skin, like lips.
