A New Year has dawned and we are taking strides to better ourselves inside and out. There is no better time than now to set goals, and make an effort to get in some heart-pumping activity every week. But while exercise does wonders for our health, it can also wreak havoc on our skin. Here are some simple guidelines to follow whenever you break a sweat, to ensure your skin stays healthy and glowing.
Exfoliate
Throughout the week, dead skin and impurities build up on the surface of our skin, and when this debris is mixed with sweat from an intense workout, the result is congested pores and breakouts. Make an effort to clear your skin of any nasties before you work out by using a gentle exfoliant.
Refresh
That flawless post-workout flush we see in commercials is really a fantasy, and the reality is that most post-gym complexions are a red, sweaty mess. Invest in a quality facial mist with ingredients like Rosewater and Salicylic Acid to calm the skin, while also fighting bacteria from gym equipment that may come into contact with your face.
Hydrate
Our bodies lose tons of moisture when we sweat, so make sure to replenish with some good old H2O. It will revive you inside and out (don't forget - water is the key to glowing skin!).
Protect
Whether you prefer to exercise outdoors or not, an SPF of 15+ is mandatory on your face to protect from harmful UVA/UVB rays that can cause sun damage, wrinkles and skin cancer. A lightweight anti-aging moisturizer with SPF built-in will combine two steps into one, and require less space in your gym bag.
